For Sonia, a Sydney-based artist with an unabashed love for cats, that story starts at home with her two furry companions, Salt and Pepper. Through her creative venture Maisonmeowmeow, Sonia captures the quirks and pure joy that her cats bring into her life. Her work blends storytelling with playful visuals, turning daily kitty antics into lasting art. In this spotlight, we get to know the woman behind the meows and the muses that started it all.

Hello 🙂
I’m Sonia, a Sydney based artist who with an obsession with cats. Inspired by my muses, Salt and Pepper from illustrations to needle felted cats, I create warm and playful cat themed art. I believe art has the power to inspire and connect people, and I hope to share the furry love to your world.
Things I like: Coffee, travel, picture books and groovy music.
Tell us about Maisonmeowmeow.
When I came up with the name I dreamed a place full collection of cat stuff. It would be a special spot with all my favourite things.
It’s also about my home with my two cats and Hoihoi (hubby). Their playful presence and shared memories inspired the concept of a house filled with meows, a place full of happiness and love.
Why did you start Maisonmeowmeow?
My cats are too cute!
I took thousands of photos and video of them, but sometimes I couldn’t capture all the precious moments. Through my drawings, cartoon and short animation I wanted to bring these moments to life and share the adorable side of my cats with more people!!!
What inspires your work?
My muses are definitely Salt and Pepper!
Every morning they surprise me with little gifts on my bed, and every night, I fall asleep to their kneading massages.
Their love and relaxed spirits inspired me to draw and create. Watching my cats is a constant source of inspiration. Whether they are sniffing flowers, munching on plants, diving into boxes, or even watching me shower… all can be a story!

- Fun fact: Salt used to have black patch on his head, but it’s gone now.

Pepper
- Gender: Male
- Born: 27.9.2021
- Grey Tabby Domestic Short Hair
- Personality: Attention seeker, playful & expressive, silly & funny
- Trouble history: Peed on shoes, cooking pan, pooped on the plant pot!
- Love food! Attempts to steal our KFC all the time!
- No skills. Just cute.
Salt and Pepper are brothers who love each other dearly and often they move in perfect sync ♥️♥️♥️
